Philemon 1-7 Devotional: Sharing Your Faith
Posted on August 3rd, 2009 by debbiefitz in Devotions, SyndicatedDevotional Sharing, Submitted by Sue Yi, Gracepoint Berkeley.
As I thought about Apostle Paul’s words: I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, I was struck again how I need to daily commit to this to be my life’s purpose. My faith isn’t something that I tacked onto my life but after becoming a Christian my life’s purpose has changed. As I just returned from the soph retreat I thought what do I have to do with any of these 19 year olds? And the only thing is because of the gospel, because I want to share what I have in Jesus and so that the gospel can touch them and multiply.. I need to actively live out my faith so that it can multiply. Apostle Paul is described in v.1 as a prisoner of Christ Jesus.. this was his identity and as a prisoner he was passionate in sharing the gospel despite the consequences. My life is not threatened in any way from sharing my faith but my identity needs to be as clear as Apostle Paul’s and I need to commit to sharing in his identity as a prisoner of Christ Jesus.
Devotion Questions:
“Paul wrote this letter to Philemon, a believer in Colosse who, along with others, was a slave owner. One of his slaves, Onesimus, had apparently stolen from him and then run away, which under Roman law was punishable by death. But Onesimus met Paul and through his ministry became a Christian. Now he was willing to return to his master, and Paul writes this personal appeal to ask that he be accepted as a Christian brother.”[1]
- Reflect on the words “faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints.” Is this evident in my life?
- How would actively sharing my faith lead to a “full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ”?
- How have I personally experienced this?
- How actively am I currently sharing my faith?
