Sunday Home Worship Service (Sun 8/1)

We will be having our worship service at the 605 house throughout the summer. Join us as we study through the book of Acts and learn about how God worked through the early church and how it applies to us in our modern day context. Please note that we will begin with a prayer meeting at 11:00am. The worship service begins at 12:15pm and will be followed by lunch and a time of fellowship.

Dallas On the Road Bible Study

We continued the tradition begun in 2009, of taking the TFN Bible Study ‘On-The-Road’ – this past weekend, to Dallas Texas! Friday night we had a giant Speed Scrabble ice-breaker, TFN Bible study, and a fun round of Mad Gabs. Then the next day, Dallas being the home of the Rangers Stadium, 6th Floor JFK Museum, and HMart (among other cultural icons), we visited each of those places with our Dallas friends and had a good time catching up. We were sad to depart but will see everyone soon again in August. ‘Til our next OTR TFN in July – Houston, TX, here we come!

Summer TTN Bible Study

Last Thursday, we had our second Bible Study on campus for the summer, where we welcomed some more new incoming freshmen as well as a dozen brothers from the class of 2009 from Gracepoint Berkeley! We continued our message series on Man’s True Need and learned about our need for God’s love and how it enables us to love others.

Afterwards, we headed up to the Business School Atrium for some Boba and Board Games! While sipping our pearl milk tea, we guessed gestures, scrabbled speedily, gabbed madly, and capped it off with an amazing act from Mo the Magician.

Volunteering at Habitat for Humanity

Koinonia got a chance to kick off the Summer of Servanthood with a day of volunteering at Habitat for Humanity. We got to partner with this Christian organization to help a family build their house – this time around we got to break dirt and lay sod and even plant two trees. It was good to work with our hands alongside one another, and after learning how to use some new tools (like the “Texas Toothpick”), we capped off the day with some Sno-Beach.

On Saturday, Koinonia staff and students went out to help Austin’s Habitat for Humanity with landscaping for a newly built house. We dug up rocks andtrash from the hard earth and laid down fresh soil and sod. By the end ofthe day, the barren lot was transformed into a lush green yard. The experience for me was extremely positive. I was surprised at how work that seemed tiring and mundane became fun through an atmosphere of teamwork and fellowship. Even though the work was tough, especially under the hot Texas sun, it was exciting to see our efforts come together as piece after piece of sod was laid down. By the end of the day, although I was tired physically, it was revitalizing to be able to see the work we accomplished knowing that all of it would be for a family in need.

Rehabilitation Center Visit

This past Sunday, Gracepoint Austin got to visit once again the South Congress Rehabilitation Center. We recognized several familiar faces and made acquaintances with new residents who were able to make it to our program, and we enjoyed singing “Your Love is Deep” together, listening to a message by one of our grad group bros, and spending some time giving them gifts (with the verse Zephaniah 3:17 attached). It was a wonderful way to begin our Summer of Servanthood, just a few days after our kickoff rally. We look forward to being able to visit once a month here, and getting to know (and share God’s love with) these precious folks!
