Taking the Vision as a Mission: Cougar-edition

Written by Steffanie W.

This past Saturday, about 120 of us, including our Praxis and Kairos friends, embarked a 2-hour long journey down to visit the University of Houston campus – the land of the Cougars! Since our church plans to start a fellowship there in the Fall of 2015, we thought it’d be neat to go on a vision trip – to see the campus first-hand as well as to pray for all the students there.

We started the day with lunch at K-Pop buffet on the way to the UH campus. Fresh sushi and sashimi? Check! Delicious Brazilian churrasco? Check! Endless array of delectable side dishes and desserts? Check! We were basically stuffed until the end of the day 

Next, we made our way to the University of Houston, which is located in the heart of downtown Houston. Pastor Jonathan led the tour around campus, telling us the history of UH as well as many trivias about the buildings on campus. Did you know that a set of benches in front of the College of Architecture cost $50,000 each to build?

We stopped at various locations to lift up specific prayers for the campus while also being reminded of how God revealed Himself to us personally and has worked in our lives up until now.

Afterwards, some of us went to Hermann Park to play sports, such as Ultimate Frisbee and football. Others went to the Toyota Center to attend the Winter Jam Concert, where Christian artists such as Lecrae and Tenth Avenue North performed in front of thousands of audience!

Our trip ended with good food and dessert in Chinatown. We had some shaved ice, which was so refreshing and sweet – just what we needed right after sports!

Through this vision trip to the University of Houston, we were reminded once again of our church’s vision to have an Acts 2 church in every college town and also challenged to fully embrace our identity as a messenger of God, carrying out the great commission that has been entrusted to us. We’re so excited to see what He has in store for the University of Houston! Go Coogs!
