Braving the Rain for Boba

With Hurricane Harvey on the rise and storms blowing through Austin during Mooov-In, we questioned whether we would be able to hold all the Welcome Week events we planned. Many official school events were cancelled. New students were scoping out campus for something to do instead of being cooped up in their dorms. But God answered our prayers and pulled us through!

Starting on Friday, the rain cleared up for the night—just in time for Boba & Board Games outside of Gregory Gym. The rain turned out to be a blessing as the weather grew cooler, creating a nice atmosphere to meet new people and just hang out together.

Then on Saturday night, we held another Boba & Board Games event inside the McCombs Atrium. The rain hit us hard this time, and at first, we didn’t expect anyone to come. But believe it or not, enough people braved the heavy rain to fill all the seats in the Atrium! The love of boba and playing board games turns out to be super strong among the Class of 2021.

Each table was bustling with a different board game from our abundant collection, including Codenames, Anomia, Jenga, and GIANT Uno! And the boba drinks just hit the spot. We tried to make the most of these two nights by having fun and getting to know one another.

As Hurricane Harvey pummeled across the coast of Texas and all the way up to the Houston, we should not forget the tragic damage of the hurricane, so if you want to learn more about how to help out the families and homes affected, check out this article: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/08/28/546745827/looking-to-help-those-affected-by-harvey-here-s-a-list.
