10 best places to begin your dive into Austin’s food culture

Did you know that Austin is rated as one of the choice food cities in America? Well, whether you knew or not, a wise longhorn would spend their 4 years at UT getting a good taste of what Austin has to offer. Next time you grab a bite to eat, explore the delicious eateries Austin has to offer around campus. Here are 10 of the best places near campus to curb your hunger:

#1 - Taco Joint

Address: 2807 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX 78712

Taco Joint is one of my personal favorites. If you’re craving good tacos, make this your next stop. Tacos range from $2.00-$3.75. Just take a quick stroll down E Dean Keaton St, and you’re there. There’s one in Riverside too (for y’all Riverside folks!)

I recommend the potato, bean, and cheese taco, or the street taco.

#2 - Julie’s Noodles

Address: 2512 Rio Grande St, Austin, TX 78705, in the 26th St food truck park

Don’t trouble yourself by traveling to the main restaurant. Instead, visit their food truck. The menu is smaller, but the noodles are just as good. I recommend their beef noodle soup.

#3 - Left Wing

Address: 2416 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

Left wing is conveniently located in Space 24 Twenty, across from 26th St. It offers outdoor seating, a vibrant atmosphere, and large portions of chicken!

#4 - Halal Bros

Address: 2712 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

Located conveniently across from Duren ResHall, next to the In-and-Out, Halal Bros offers up large portions. I recommend the Chicken over rice. One tip, if you get there and it looks to crowded, check to the left of the cash registers to find extra seating; or sit outside on their patio and enjoy the nice weather Austin has to offer.

#5 - Burrito Factory

Address: 2025 Guadalupe St # 244, Austin, TX 78705

If you are searching for Mexican food and good salsa, look no further. Burrito Factory offers spicy options, while being conveniently located inside Dobie mall. P.S. they serve more than burritos. They also offer tortas, tacos, and horchata.

#6 - Whataburger

Address: 2800 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

Disregard In-and-out, you’re in Texas! That means you eat at Whataburger. If you’re new to Texas and have yet to try Whataburger, add visiting the Whataburger on Guad. to your list of things to do.

#7 - CoCo’s Cafe

Address: 1910 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

When you want to find good food and bubble tea in the same place, look no further than CoCo’s Cafe. CoCo’s is located on Guad. heading down towards MLK, not to far from Dobie, and offers Taiwanese food in a comfortable setting.

#8 - Chick-Fil-A

Address:
on campus locations- The Texas Union, and the WCP Student Activity Center
off campus- 503 W Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78701

Many people love Chick-fi-la, and this video speaks to that:

#9 - Raising Canes

Address: 415 W Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78701

If College Station is so well known for their chicken fingers, why do they taste better in Austin?

#10 - Don Japanese Kitchen

Address: 2716 Guadalupe St, Austin, TX 78705

Don Japanese Kitchen is great. They serve up bento boxes with chicken katsu, pork katsu and many other options; as well as an assortment of extra toppings to add on so you can create the perfect bento.
